Shopify Storefront API token
How to create a Storefront API access token in Shopify, how AppDuz stores it, and what it does and does not unlock today.
A Storefront API access token is optional. Your app preview works without one.
Create the token in Shopify
Since 1 January 2026, Storefront API tokens come from the Headless sales channel. Instructions that say "create a custom app in your admin" are out of date.
- In Shopify admin, open Settings, then Apps and sales channels, and add the Headless channel if it is not installed.
- Create a storefront inside the Headless channel.
- Copy the Storefront API access token.
- Paste it into AppDuz in the connect step.
How AppDuz handles it
- AppDuz makes one request to Shopify to check the token is valid.
- The token is encrypted at rest and never shown again in full, only a masked form.
- You can disconnect it at any time, and you can revoke it in Shopify.
What it unlocks today
The token reads products, collections and variants that are published to the Headless channel it belongs to. It does not show draft products.
Today the token is validated and stored. It is not yet used to enrich your editor preview, and it does not give the app a working cart, customer login or order history. Those are planned, and this page will change when they ship.
